COMMON CONCERNS:
PIGMENTATION
Hyperpigmentation can be stubborn and multifactorial — from sun damage and post‑inflammatory marks to melasma and hormonal changes. At our clinic we begin with a thorough, individualized assessment using a professional skin analyser to map pigmentation, vascular changes, and skin texture, enabling precise treatment planning.
TREATMENTS TO TARGET THIS CONCERN
Treatment options are always personalised but may include:
-
A tailored home regimen is essential. We prescribe antioxidant serums, broad‑spectrum sunscreen, topical brighteners (azelaic acid, vitamin C, niacinamide) and, where appropriate, prescription agents such as hydroquinone or tranexamic acid to stabilize melanin production and protect results.
-
Superficial to medium depth peels accelerate skin cell turnover, target pigmentation changes, and improve tone and texture. We offer several different types of peels in Clinic, which can be tailored to your specific skin type.
-
DPL (Dynamic intense pulsed light) targets epidermal and superficial dermal pigmentation and vascular components, improving discolouration and overall radiance. It is a fantastic option to treat pigmentation caused by sun damage.
LED therapy (green, red and near‑infrared) supports healing and reduces inflammation post‑procedure, enhancing recovery and outcomes.
-
Microneedling creates controlled microchannels to promote remodelling and enhance topical penetration. Combined with tranexamic acid and glutathione, microneedling delivers potent anti‑pigment and antioxidant agents directly into the skin to inhibit melanin synthesis, reduce stubborn patches, and brighten overall tone across multiple sessions.
-
When paired with exosomes, microneedling amplifies regenerative signalling, modulates inflammation, and supports barrier restoration. It is a new and cutting-edge treatment for all pigmentation changes including melasma.
-
For discrete pigmented lesions and stubborn focal patches, CryoPen cryotherapy allows precise freezing of selected spots to remove surface lesions with minimal surrounding tissue damage.
What DR Lizzie thinks
For pigmentation changes a thorough consultation is essential, combining medical expertise with skin analysis photography allows me to identify the cause of your pigmentation problems which allows me to tailor treatment directly to you. A tailored skincare regime is essential, especially one that inhibits pigmentation (using Tyrozine inhibitors such as vitamin C, arbutin and hydroquinone) and helps lift previous pigmentation with the use of retinoids. For areas of sun damage, I love using the DPL machine which allows me to clear stubborn pigmentation changes effectively.
