The Next Generation of toxins
Introducing Relfydess
What’s all the Hype & is it worth it?
We all know and love traditional “Botox” or botulinum toxin for its proven power to smooth expression lines and refresh tired skin. It’s been around for decades and has earned its place as a go-to in every aesthetic clinic. But now, there’s a new player in town Relfydess and it’s stirring up quite a bit of interest in the world of injectable wrinkle treatments!
So, what’s all the buzz about? Let’s break down how these two toxins differ — from how they’re made, to how fast they work, and how long they last.
Traditional Botox (a brand name for onabotulinumtoxinA, also called Boucuture, Azzalure and others depending on manufacturer) comes as a freeze-dried powder that must be carefully mixed with saline before it’s injected. That process is called reconstitution. The product itself also contains accessory proteins around the active neurotoxin — something that’s been the standard for many years, but not necessarily essential to how the treatment works.
Relfydess, on the other hand, is a ready-to-use purified liquid formulation. It’s a newer generation of botulinum toxin (relabotulinumtoxinA) that doesn’t need to be mixed at all. Because it’s pre-diluted in a precise concentration, every treatment is consistent from the moment the vial is opened. It’s also complex-free, meaning it contains only the active neurotoxin molecule without those extra accessory proteins.
What does mean for you?
For patients, it can mean a smoother, more predictable experience. It is also totally vegan (other toxins are not).
Speed of Onset
Another big talking point is sped of onset. Traditional Botox tends to start working within a couple of days, with full results appearing after about two weeks. With Relfydess, studies have shown that 39% of people see results withing a single day! For those of us preparing for a big event or those who simply want faster gratification, that’s a major advantage. For my experience in clinic, I find onset of action is usually a good 4 days sooner than a more traditional toxin would produce!
Longevity
When it comes to longevity, this is where Relfydess really shines. While classic toxin treatments typically last around three to four months, Galderma’s research shows Relfydess can hold results for up to six months in many patients. With 75% of patients maintaining improvements for six months for frown lines and crow’s feet in trials. Fewer top-ups per year can make it a practical and cost-effective choice for us who want smoother skin with less maintenance!
Pain and is it worth it?
We are all concerned about pain and most patients (82%) found that relfydess was a little more painful than their previous toxin.
However, the most important question is did they feel it was worth it for the added benefits? The answer is YES! In trials 88% said they would continue with Relfydess in the future.
